new archbishop of york visits the college for all saints’ day
The College was delighted to welcome Archbishop Stephen Cottrell to celebrate our Patronal Feast in the Chapel on All Saints’ Day, 1 November 2020. The Archbishop of York is the College Visitor, reflecting Queen’s historic links with the North of England.
He confirmed three members of the College, in the first Confirmation service he had conducted since being enthroned at York Minster in October. 2020. Those who made their adult Christian commitment (pictured below) were Anna (AJ) Jeffries-Shaw (second-year Classics), Rhiannon Petteford (first-year History & Czech) who was also baptised in the service, and Madeleine Ridout (first-year Oriental Studies). It was a moving experience for the candidates and those who were able to be there to support them.
Sadly, because of Covid restrictions, the College was unable to exercise its customary hospitality and treat the Archbishop to dinner in Hall. However, as the Archbishop himself said, that gives him all the more reason to come back another time.
